Bev Scott and Patricia Cavanaugh

Bev Scott and Patricia Cavanaugh formed their partnership in The 3rd Act, coming together from different paths, in 2008.

Several years ago, Bev was talking to her good friend Anna about what was next as they each slowed down their consulting practices. “We didn’t want to stop working after retirement … we wanted to stay involved with the work we loved but in a different way…less pressure, more autonomy… and we wanted give back some of what we had learned in our careers working as organizational development practitioners. Thirty years was enough! I also wanted to spend more time on my own interests including my grandsons, volunteer work and writing about my family history. Anna and I believed that others of the baby boomers generation had similar desires. We used our skills and experience and created a business we called The Third Act in 2005.”

Patricia had tired of the clinic work she had been doing as a therapist in the field of addiction for 18 years. She wanted to create something of her own. “I spent a good year or more working with a career counselor who helped me make my way through a difficult transition from a field focused on the troubled and addicted to a world where I could help folks explore untapped talent, energy and wisdom in their next developmental “generatarian” phase. Ironically, I called my coaching business The 3rd Act.”

As individuals they had been slowly and deliberately moving through their own transition. And then, serendipitously, Bev and Patricia met through the suggestions of mutual friends. They immediately hit it off, and decided to join together to form a partnership to assist others in their retirement transitions, which they appropriately called The 3rd Act.

By combining these two ventures, Bev and Patricia report that they now have a collaborative, powerful and unique business that guides others through their retirement process. By joining their creative natures and drawing on their collective strengths, they have developed a business that is more vibrant and more exciting for both of them.

“We have found that our business collaboration brings us ordinary, everyday pleasures and the challenge of learning how to build a successful business, while maintaining the important balance we both seek at this time in our lives. We are in what Professor Csikszentmihalyi calls ‘The Flow.’”
