According to a respected health economist writing in the online edition of the British Medical Journal, 40% of girls born today are expected to live to 100. In 1951, that figure was 13%.
Although there have been many revolutions over the past century, there have been none like the one we are experiencing today — The Longevity Revolution. Well, we may not live to 100, but research shows that we are living an average of 34 years longer than our great grandparents. Think of it, an entire second adult lifetime! The key question is “How are we going to live those years?”.
Being part of the baby boomer phenomenon, I have always pushed the envelope when it comes to accepting societal values and mores. In the 1990’s, I helped redefine how we see ourselves in regards to our relationship to our work. My book, Free Agents: People and Organizations Creating A New Working Community, helped a generation of knowledge workers, managers, and leaders redefine their careers and their relationships to their work. So as I enter my second adult lifetime, I prefer to live it with purpose, authenticity, and laughter.
When Bev and Patricia invited me into their amazing 3rd Act inner circle, I was both honored and elated in the knowledge that I had found my tribe. I know that Bev’s original vision will continue to guide my contributions to the 3rd Act when I collaborate with Patricia on future projects. I hope that the experience, tools, and perspective that I bring will add value to what Bev and Patricia have begun.
For the past 15 years, I have used the Birkman Method® to help leaders and teams solve their toughest and most difficult performance challenges. Using the Birkman assessment instrument in my coaching practice, I continue to help individuals and teams find their highest level of effectiveness, power, and agency. Now I am excited to bring the Birkman Method® to the 3rd Act community. The Birkman Method® is a wonderful tool and road map for helping us all in our quest for new significance, clarity, and meaning. In other words, for helping us shed our old skins, figure out what worked for us in our second act, and embark on a whole new 3rd act.
So if you’re determined to win the longevity revolution, contact us at The 3rd Act:: firstname.lastname@example.org to find out more about the Birkman Method®. I look forward to hearing from all of you and joining you in winning your personal longevity revolution with purpose, authenticity, and laughter.
