Travel: A 3rd Act Commitment

I have been traveling for the last month.  Taking time to travel has been a 3rd act commitment to myself.  For me, traveling helps me to get a new perspective on my life, make new connections and renew old friendships.

While in the Washington D.C area I met for dinner with friends and of course the conversation turned to their 3rd Act.  They are both close to retiring and I asked them what they planned to do with their time.  They both have decided to spend more time volunteering at their temple.  We spoke about how little acts of kindness and generosity can have a positive effect on both the giver and the receiver.

I had just visited the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum to see the Apollo exhibition.  It has been 40 years since the moon landing.  My friend reminded me of Neil Armstrong statement, “That’s one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind.”  It is the small acts we do that can really impact those around us. How do you plan to give back or help out? Do you have a story about someone who took a small step that lead to a big leap?
