So, What Is The 3rd Act?
What in the world is The 3rd Act? You want to have an amazing remainder of your life when you finish work. We used to call that retirement.
I bet when I say that word “retirement,” you probably get all kinds of awful thoughts and feelings about the negativity of that word and how you just don’t even want to think about it.
I can tell you I had those same reactions. I got those same reactions from people when I would go to gatherings and people would say, “well, what is it that you’re doing?” And I would say, “I’m a lifestyle coach for retirement,” and people would literally turn around and walk the other way. That’s why I pick the phrase, “The 3rd Act”.
The 3rd Act kind of connects with the stage play. And The 3rd Act is kind of an amazing time where the story resolves.
Can you imagine if your 3rd Act was the very best act in your play? Your 3rd Act is not the end of your play, but as in stage play, there is a sense of coming to resolution about this time in your life.
And as in a stage play, there can be solving of mysteries. The lovers come together. They find a way of coming back together again after being pulled apart during the play.
But for you, you might be feeling a sense of pressure. A kind of waking up and noticing, Hey, wait a minute. How did I get to be this age? And, Oh my goodness, I have much less time than I thought.
The awareness of limited years helps to focus the mind onto what’s important. That’s the gift of this particular time.
So in The 3rd Act, there’s a sense of resolution. It has some similar features to the play. You think about the dreams that you’ve had and the skills and talents that you’ve had to set aside that you wanted to explore, but had to set aside because you were raising a family or growing your career.
Well, this is a time in a very precious time to make a plan, to really review and think about what dreams you still have, what skills and talents you want to explore and what things you’ve set aside.
This is a very precious gift. It could be 20 to 30 years – many more years than your parents or grandparents had. So you want to make really good use of this gift. So done with the plan.
You can bring those dreams and skills and talents forward, and you can explore who you are now in your life and what you have left to give.
